Kristin Johnston is an oncology nurse navigator at Valley View’s CalawayᐧYoung Cancer Center and the Breast Center.
Kristin shares the nurse navigator role with Rachel Bowler – RN, BSN, PHN. Together, the two collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team including physical therapy, speech therapy, oncology, integrative therapies and more, for each patient they serve.
As “navigator” implies, in her role Kristin helps lead patients through cancer survivorship, guiding individuals from diagnosis through every step of the treatment journey.
“For a patient, their cancer journey is a process that is often very overwhelming. My job is to help a person transition from biopsy to surgery, surgery to radiation oncology, and more,” says Kristin. “Through education and ongoing communication, I help piece together the puzzle from multiple disciplines to illustrate a comprehensive care picture.”
Kristin studied biology and graduated with a bachelor’s degree and cum laude honors from the University of Missouri. She earned her nursing degree from Barnes Jewish in St. Louis, then her master’s in nursing from Maryville University in St. Louis.
When Kristin isn’t serving patients at Valley View, she enjoys family time with her two young sons and husband.
